It was the first bout Evander HOLIFIELD, who returned to boxing after retiring in 1994, against Mike TYSON, who defended his WBA world heavyweight boxing champion title. After Holyfield survived the first round, it became obvious very quickly that he had beaten Tyson. In the sixth round, Tyson was down after Holyfield left hook, and five rounds later, the referee stopped the fight. Evander Holyfield became the first person since the great Muhammad ALI to win a heavyweight title three times. Rematch Holyfield - Tyson on June 28, 1997, ended Tyson's disqualification when he lost control and twice bitten Holyfield's ear.
