On March 17, 1990, Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar CHAVEZ met American Meldrick TAYLOR in Las Vegas, USA, to unify the WBC-IBF world 140 lb championship title. This historic boxing fight, nicknamed Thunder Meets Lightning, would later be named Ring Magazine's Fight of the Year for 1990 and later still the Fight of the Decade for the 1990s. In this greatest bout, fast Taylor was ahead on points before the last round, but with seconds to go in the fight, Chavez staggered Taylor with a right hand and then dropped him. Taylor got to his feet at the count of six, but the referee stopped the fight.
